scholarships for healthcare education

So, you have decided to become a nurse, one of the noblest professions on earth. Your whole life will be dedicated to improving quality of life for other people and even saving their lives. Of course, you will need to attend nursing school before this dream can become a reality, but the cost of school makes some people shy away from becoming a nurse.

If cost is an issue, there are plenty of resources that can help you. Here are 4 scholarships future nurses can use to lessen the financial burden of their college experience.

American Red Cross Student Nurse Scholarship

If you are interested in becoming a nurse, there is a good chance you have volunteered with an organization like the American Red Cross before. If you have, you may be eligible for this scholarship worth $3,000 in tuition money. You must have volunteered with the Red Cross or a similar organization within the last 5 years and currently be enrolled in nursing classes full time. The application process includes an essay revolving around two questions.

Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association General Scholarships

This scholarship is only available to those that are currently enrolled in school. Whether you are on your way to an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree, this scholarship is available to you. It is need based, so the value of it ranges from between $1,000 and $7,5000 depending on your financial situation.

Johnson & Johnson/AACN Minority Nurse Faculty Scholarship

This scholarship is worth $18,000 and is available to any minority nursing student currently enrolled in nursing school. Minority nursing students can be awarded the scholarship whether you are working towards your undergraduate or graduate degree. To be eligible, the student must currently be enrolled in an accredited nursing program on a full-time basis. In some instances, this amount can cover the full cost of tuition.

Henry Dunant Scholarship

This nursing scholarship is available to men striving to become nurses. The scholarship is worth a minimum of $250. In order to qualify, the individual must have at least 2.5 GPA and will submit an essay about the importance of men in nursing.

Although these are just four scholarships, there are lots of grants and scholarships available to help you pay for school. It may take a little time and effort to find the ones you’re qualified for, but reduced student loan debt is well worth the extra effort. After all, scholarships are designed to help students focus on their schoolwork — not worrying about how they are going to pay tuition.
